Jiading to take its people to world of dinosaurs

People, especially kids in Jiading district of Shanghai will have the opportunity to experience a world of dinosaurs during the upcoming May Day holiday, local media reported on April 26.

A park in the Jiading Industrial Zone is in preparation of a dinosaur exhibition, which aims to enable locals to gain a better understanding of dinosaur culture. The exhibition will be open to the public on May 1, according to the organizer.

Over 40 groups of dinosaur models and fossils will be shown at the exhibition. The exhibits feature more than ten species, including dilophosaurus, tyrannosaurus, stegosaurus, and pterosaur.

One highlight is a giant dinosaur skeleton model, which is 27 meters long and 6 meters high, from the Lufeng Dinosaur Museum of Yunan province.

In addition to dinosaur models, some dinosaur skeletal remains, corals and other ancient fossils will also be on display at the exhibition.

Dinosaurs, known as the diverse group of animals of the clad Dinosauria, had first appeared during the Triassic period, 231.4 million years ago. They were the dominant terrestrial vertebrates for 135 million years, from the start of the Jurassic (about 200 million years ago) until the end of the Cretaceous (66 million years ago).
