A new sports-themed park in Juyuan New Area, Jiading district of Shanghai, was opened to the public on April 30. A sports carnival was also launched to celebrate its opening.

The carnival, featuring cycling, running, and bodybuilding, was aimed at enabling local people to feel the joy of sports and love it. More than 300 sports enthusiasts took part in the carnival.

Spread out in an area of 30,000 square meters, the park consists of a 1.1-kilometer ring path for walking or jogging, two basketball courts, two football courts, a gateball court, a 2,000-sq-m area for line dance, a 1,500-sq-m entertainment area for kids, and a parking lot. A swimming pool is also planned to be built inside it.

The park has done greening work quite well, with its greening rate reaching 70 percent. It looks like a green corridor along the Hengli River and is regarded as a "green lung" of the district.

The official explained that the park is intended to arouse local residents' interests in sports and is designed to meet the needs of people of all ages.

It is opened to local residents for free, from 6 am to 10 pm, except for its basketball, football and gateball courts that require some extra fees, added the official.
