A project to offer internships to university students was officially launched in the Jiading district of Shanghai on April 21.
The project, sponsored by the local youth league committee and human resources and social security bureau, aims to help both university students find jobs and local enterprises hire quality employees.
The project is specifically targeting students from Shanghai's universities and colleges and is currently in the process of recruiting for the first 500 positions with 141 students from 29 universities already having registered. A total of 26 companies have been given the title of 'practical base' for university students.
It is hoped that the students will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience through the internships and further contribute to Jiading's development following graduation.
Zhou Jianjun, director of Shanghai Youth Service and Right Protection Office, mentioned the important role of the project in helping young people receive employment or start up their own businesses.
Zhou also urged local officials to give stronger support to youth employment and entrepreneurship under the guidance of the Middle and Long-term Youth Development Plan (2016-25) issued by the State Council.
According to local officials, they will strengthen support offered to youth employment and entrepreneurship. They intend to offer job information to 10,000 people, give internships to 1,000 students, and provide startup services for 100 young entrepreneurs.
