A special program of 50 shows including concerts, dances and dramas will be staged at the Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre in Jiading district in celebration of the theatre's 3rd anniversary, officials at the theatre announced at a news briefing on Aug 29.
World-renowned art troupes such as the UK's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Boys' Choir from Austria, Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Ying Quartet from Eastman School of Music in the US will be invited to give high-level performances.
A song and dance show titled Impression of Yunnan directed by the famous Chinese dancer Yang Liping will be staged from Oct 12 to 14.
Dramas adapted from five short stories by the modern Chinese writer Lao She (1899-1966), The Comedy of Sex and Politics by Ismene Ting and Stan Lai, and a story about a revolutionary named Dong Biwu will also be performed during the series.
The audience will also be treated to performances of huajixi, the traditional local style of comic drama, cross talk comedy skits, and the children's play My Father is a Dinosaur.
The Shanghai Poly Grand Theater opened in 2014 and is dedicated to introducing fine art to local residents. A total of 733 shows have been performed at the theater by more than 200 art troupes and 17,000 performers over the past three years, reaching an audience of more than 600,000.
