Officials in Jiading district of Shanghai reported their current achievements in developing Jiading into a city famous for quyi to a delegation from the Chinese Ballad Singers Association on Dec 25.

Quyi is a traditional Chinese art form covering a variety of categories such as ballad singing, storytelling, comic dialogues and Chinese crosstalk.

Gu Huiwen, head of Jiading publicity department, introduced Jiading's profound culture and long history and said that the district will stick to cultural development for the benefit of its citizens.

According to the officials, Jiading has built eight quyi bases across the district this year including the Worker's Quyi Studio, Jiading Cultural Center quyi base, Anting town as home of China's quyi, Shanghai Gu Zhujun Talking-singing Art Center Nanxiang base, Juyuan New Area Old Teahouse, and Jiading Industrial Zone Quyi Creation Base.

It has also organized a series of quyi-featured activities, such as a story-telling session, and story-telling performances.

A batch of quyi-themed municipal-level contests featuring quyi performance, story creation and Shanghai-dialect storytelling have also landed in Jiading to promote innovation and inheritance of quyi art.

Experts of the delegation spoke highly of Jiading's efforts and said that they found Jiading's residents, both young and old, love quyi from the bottom of their heart, and its quyi works based on local culture and customs enjoy popularity among the residents.
