A research society on Gui Youguang (1507–1571), a renowned Chinese writer of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), was launched in Jiading district, Shanghai, on Nov 30.
Gui lived and taught in Jiading for over 20 years. To inherit his spirit, the Zhenchuan Academy, predecessor of Zhenchuan Middle School, was built in Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and became a renowned academy in Jiangnan area thereafter.
Gui's teaching activity and the establishment of Zhenchuan Academy were considered as significant driving forces to the development of education in Jiading.
Liu Haitao, chairman of Jiading CPPCC, pointed out that research on Gui Youguang can advance Jiading’s literature history, inherit Jiading's traditional culture, and enhance cultural confidence.
The research society will focus its research on the life, family history, works, education, academic thoughts of Gui Youguang. It will also hold related symposiums, lectures, exhibitions and competitions.
