The Shanghai Acoustics Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was founded in 1960 and initially focused on marine acoustic experiments. After decades of development, the lab now leads Chinese research institutions in terms of research and innovation capabilities.
The lab has won five national awards, 76 provincial and ministerial awards, over 30 CAS awards, and several other international honors for its important role in China's acoustic and economic development.
The lab is now mainly engaged in the research and development of technology for acoustic navigation, underwater acoustic positioning and detection, ultrasonic application, digital communication, information processing, and medical acoustics.
It has over 200 employees, including nearly 160 researchers. A total of 25 postgraduates and five doctoral students are now pursuing degrees at the lab.
