A total of four Jiading-based enterprises were included on the 2020 list of Shanghai's top 100 companies, local news reported on Aug 19.

The list, which was unveiled by Shanghai's federation of enterprises, is designed to encourage the high-quality development of private companies in Shanghai. The threshold for entering the list this year was 7.32 billion yuan ($1.06 billion).

Among the top 100 companies, twenty-two companies recorded operating revenue of more than 100 billion yuan last year, including four private companies. Nine enterprises were included in the Fortune Global 500 list, two more than last year.

The list shows that leading companies in Shanghai's emerging industries are growing rapidly, including the industries of integrated circuit manufacturing, pharmaceutical manufacturing and medical equipment.

E-commerce business in Shanghai has also maintained robust growth. Twelve e-commerce platforms were on the list of the top 100 companies, which posted operating revenue of 402.4 billion yuan in 2019, up 39.38 percent year-on-year.

Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC), the biggest contract chip maker on the Chinese mainland, posted sharp growth in gross revenue and debuted on the STAR Market on July 16 with gains of over 202 percent.

SMIC has successfully mass-produced a smartphone processor for Huawei Technologies Co, marking a breakthrough in the mainland's push to boost its chip-making industry.
