Jiading district in Shanghai has made marvelous achievements in developing its economy, promoting technology and improving people's livelihoods in recent years.
The district, famous for its long history and profound culture, is honored as a scientific satellite city and an international automobile city. It has been committed to transforming and upgrading its drivers for economic development and achieved fruitful results. In 2019, its added value reached 260.81 billion yuan ($38.29 billion), doubling the amount in 2010. The per capita disposable income of local residents was 58,277 yuan, 1.4 times that of 2010.
Jiading has taken a series of measures to become a base for high-end manufacturing, a center of technological innovation and a significant core of the Yangtze River Delta region.
Automobiles, a pillar industry in Jiading, helped the district rank top in Shanghai in terms of added value, total financial revenue and industrial output value above designated size in 2019. Jiading is now striving to become a global automotive industry center and to create a whole industrial chain with total value of 1.2 trillion yuan by 2025.
Jiading also manages to foster new economic drivers by developing remote sensors and the internet of things, high-performance medical equipment and precision medicine, and its online economy. It is home to a batch of high-quality enterprises, such as Volkswagen MEB, ComNav Technology, and United Imaging. It has three characteristics parks at municipal level, and 16 at district level.
Jiading has also prioritized the development of science and technology. It has 1,400 high-tech enterprises. The investment in research and development of the whole society accounted for 6.72 percent of GDP in 2018, much higher than that of Shanghai and China. Th district strengthened cooperation with universities and research institutions to put scientific achievements into production. The district plans to join hands with Suzhou and Wenzhou cities to extend the influence of the Scientific Technology Fair for the Yangtze River Delta Region, which is a yearly event first held in 2018.
To improve its business environment, Jiading has also taken measures to promote administrative services by capitalizing on online and offline methods.
Measures were also carried out to promote investment with the district's investment in fixed assets increasing by 30.5 percent year-on-year in the first half year of 2020. To attract investment, Jiading signed 215 projects with total investment of more than 80 billion yuan. As many as 12,911 enterprises were newly registered in the district from January to July, a yearly increase of 23 percent.
