A grape exhibition and tasting event for medium and late maturing grape varieties was held in Malu Grape Theme Park, Jiading district on Aug 14, showcasing 52 varieties of grapes.
All the grape varieties displayed at the event were introduced, bred, and cultivated by the Shanghai Malu Grape Research Institute, such as the popular grape varieties called "Kyoho", "Sunshine Rose", "Giant Rose", "Moldova", "Super Queen", as well as "Jinong No 1".
Ten new varieties independently cultivated by Malu Grape Research Institute were also unveiled at the event.
The "Super Queen" variety is selected from "Queen Nina" grapes. The bright red fruit is close to the size of a table tennis ball, with a milky and strawberry aroma.
Through voting by citizen representatives and experts at the event, the "Super Queen" variety, as well as the research institute independently bred grape varieties "Giant Rose" and "Kyoho" were recognized as the most popular grapes among mid and late varieties this year.
Currently, Malu Grape Theme Park has started selling grape varieties like "Sunshine Rose", "Kyoho", "Giant Rose", and "Golden Finger" at 40 yuan ($6.16) per gram.
