Shanghai's Jiading district has set up the goal to establish 18 hydrogen refueling stations during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
The district currently has five stations.
Before the end of this year, two projects related to hydrogen energy and the development of the hydrogen fuel cell industry will be launched, said Lu Fangzhou, Party secretary of the district.
One of the projects will see the launch of a new version of the spatial plan for Jiading Hydrogen Port, while the other one involves the introduction of supportive policies for hydrogen energy and the hydrogen fuel cell industry. These policies will mainly be focused on talent attraction and energy application.
The district has been bolstering its efforts to develop its three special industrial zones - the Shanghai New Energy Vehicle and Key Parts Industrial Base, the Jiading Hydrogen Port, and the Auto Innovation Park - by attracting leading companies such as Toyota, Great Wall Motors, Fosun, and Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co.
"Real large-scale industrialization is estimated to happen in 2024 to 2025. After two to three years of development, our company will be able to achieve mass application of the technologies," said Lu Bingbing, general manager of SHPT.
The hydrogen energy products of SHPT have been applied to some delivery vehicles, garbage trucks, and buses in the district, and the number of the buses equipped with hydrogen fuel cell will soon be increased, said Lu Fangzhou,
As the district is home to about 150,000 automobile industry employees, authorities will also be implementing measures such as offering accommodation near workplaces and more frequent shuttle buses to enhance working conditions.
