Pudong authorities are determined to promote Pudong as a top sports district both at home and abroad, reported by Pudong Times on April 15.

Advancing public sports infrastructure remains the priority for the sports development of Pudong in 2016, with the emphasis being for citizens to be afforded 98 percent coverage when it comes to sports facilities.

Two sports centers are to be built in Chuansha and Zhoupu, and insiders have revealed that there is a possibility to build a fitness trail network.

A series of major sports events, like the Archery World Cup and the World 9-ball China Open will be held in Pudong this year. Pudong authorities last year conducted 267 mass sporting events which attracted around 240,000 participants.

The authorities also resolved to link their sporting goals to cultural ones and push events such as the Pudong International Marathon, Lujiazui folk dance, Gaodong Gate Ball and Tangzhen Billiards.

The district also intends to explore new economic model for sports by developing a leisure sports industry, making full use of expo sites and the new Disney Resort.
