A salon on how to keep healthy over the long hot summer was launched recently in Lujiazui, Pudong New Area of Shanghai.

General health and well-being is often linked with many of the key tenets of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). TCM is built on a foundation of more than 2,500 years of Chinese medical practice that includes various forms of herbal medicine, acupuncture, massage, exercise, and dietary therapy.

An expert specializing in health management and nutrition gave a selection of workers from Lujiazui advice on dietary therapies, illness prevention, and medical treatment.

She said that the diet in summer should consist of mild flavors and fruits such as yellow peaches, grapes, watermelon, figs, pears, and Hami melon (a type of cantaloupe named after Hami, Xinjiang).

The expert also suggested drinking cold mung bean and adzuki bean soups, helping to provide relief from the stifling summer heat.
