Small- and medium-sized enterprises based in Shanghai's Pudong New Area are able to get easier access to the city's public scientific research resources, as Pudong looks to promote innovation in the district.
The policy was explained in detail during a conference on digital science and technology R&D platforms hosted by Pudong New Area on Oct 28.
Officials at the conference explained that entrepreneurs and SMEs are able to get access to the research resources by applying for a "science and technology innovation coupon", and outlined the application procedure for attendees.
Pudong is also looking to support local innovation through its digital R&D platforms. The platforms are intended to level the playing field for SMEs by providing them with a range of services designed to help them overcome barriers to innovation.
Users will be able to access an integrated database of R&D resources and scientific literature, and the platforms will also help coordinate equipment sharing among companies in the district.
Officials believe the new platforms will improve local companies' independent innovation capabilities, lower their innovation costs, and accelerate technology transfer in the region.
Several experts also shared their experiences in technology R&D with the conference, including Huang Yuying, deputy head of Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility's physics and environmental science department, and Liu Yuanhua, deputy general manager of Shanghai-based tech company Sino IC Technology Co.
