Areas near the "nine hills", including Sheshan Hill, Tianmashan Hill and Fenghuangshan Hill, are rich in water resources and farmers traditionally breed domestic ducks in the rivers or on the farmland. Locals usually put the duck eggs, which are green and rich in nutrients, into a marinade and add more than 10 condiments before simmering the eggs over a slow fire.

The delicacy is in season in spring and autumn, and can be served as a dessert or a full dish. The eggs are often individually packaged in a vacuum-sealed bag for hygiene and convenience.
