Designed by British architect Martin Jochman, the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, or Tianma Pit Hotel, is the world's first underground hotel built on the site of an abandoned quarry.
The hotel stretches 88 meters underground and was listed as one of the architectural wonders of the world in National Geographic Channel's Mega Structures series due to its pioneering design.
The entire construction process was filmed for the Mega Structures TV series, which was broadcast in more than 200 countries and regions.
Designed with modern elegance which accentuates the unique features of the original quarry landscape, all 336 rooms and suites provide spacious, luxurious living rooms with spectacular views of the hotel's signature waterfalls and surrounding cliffs.
All hotel rooms on the bottom floor receive around-the-clock room service to ensure a pleasant experience.
