The 6th Weicun Drum Carriage Culture Festival began on April 25, in the village of Weicun, near the city of Linfen, Shanxi province. This particular celebration of running with the drum carriage dates back to the Jin'e'gong period of the Spring and Autumn Period (770–256 BC), so it is more than 2,700 years old. The activity is a combination of drum carriage and drumming, rhythm, and sports and a show of local folk culture. This custom has been added to the National intangible heritage list and has been recognized as a living heritage of Shanxi. In recent years, the county around it, Xiangfen, has made an effort to tie tourism and the culture business to the drum carriage festival as characteristic brand, by referring to the tradition humorously as a "Rural F1".(Photo/Xinhua) |
