An art exhibition of the watercolor works of Liu Changyou opened at the Shanxi University Art Gallery, in the city of Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, on Dec 28, with a wide ranging collection, which attracted painters, art lovers, and collectors.
One 1.6-meter-tall, 3.5-meter-long painting, the largest of Liu's 60 poplar works, was a stand-out at the exhibition.

Xu Ruojun, the deputy secretary of the China Collectors Association, remarked, "Liu is a leading figure in China's contemporary academic scene, with poplar paintings and international fame," while Zhu tong, a prominent artist, commented on how the work combines oriental landscapes with a western abstract feel.
Four of Liu'most poplar works, including Winter, were exhibited in Paris, France, in the early 1980s, and were a huge success.
