The city of Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, hosted a relics protection conference, on Feb 19, where it was announced that funds for provincial relics protection this year will get a greatly boost and funds for relics at the provincial level will amount to as much as 120 million yuan ($19.73 million). Conference participants were also told of eight key relics protection projects -- an old construction site in southern Shanxi, a world cultural heritage protection site, Yingxian Tower reinforcement, a painted sculpture project, historical site archaeology and research from the Jin (1033 BC – 376 BC), Xishan Mountain project at Taiyuan, an ancient dwelling site, and an endangered relics project.
