The opening ceremony of the filming "Ups and Downs of Rishengchang" was held on March 24, in Pingyao county, Shanxi province.
The movie is sponsored by the Shanxi Meilunmeiyun Culture Co, Pingyao Tangdu Lacquerware Co and Shanxi Shijiboao Television Culture Co.
Founded in the Qing Dynasty, the Rishengchang Bank was the earliest bank in Chinese history.
The film tells of the establishment and development of Rishengchang, through three generations.
Shanxi merchants always believed in the characteristics of faithfulness, honesty and creativity which guided them to expand their markets.
The movie represents the Shanxi spirit, and aims to show off that spirit to a wider audience. It also plays a vital role in promoting images of Shanxi merchants and Pingyao's economic and tourism development.
The film is expected to begin shooting at the end of April.
