'Ancient Pingyao Once More', the widely acclaimed experiential play produced to get visitors more involved with Pingyao's culture and history, has met the audience for over a year, and recently it has been upgraded with more contents added.
The "living drama", debuting in the ancient city of Pingyao, North China's Shanxi province on Feb 18, 2013, has gained both social and economic benefits. The updated play has kept all the highlights while increasing the detail.
For example, it adds more cultural elements from the Ming and Qing dynasties, including live preparation of local Pingyao dishes, which makes the play more vivid. Also, it has added more sound ambience in the artificial town, which the audience described as if they were passing through the sands of time.
In addition, it brings in monologues of actors speaking in the ancient Chinese way, apart from the contemporary tour descriptions from the guides.
The artists said that when a play is created for the first time, there will always be many impulses, ideas, and inspirations, but you have to decide which is suitable and necessary for the play and make adjustments. The play has received a large amount of feedback from its audiences. Based on these valuable suggestions, the play has upgraded to the new version, which hopefully will meet the audience's needs more. The upgraded version pays more attention to details, and emphasizes audience experiences.
