Taiyuan, capital of North China’s Shanxi province, recently unveiled a policy that it will promote the use of 5,000 new energy vehicles by 2015. The local government will plan special parking spaces and build charging infrastructure at 20 demonstration communities in six districts to promote 1,000 private new-energy passenger vehicles.

The local government pointed out that it will improve the new-energy automobile application promotion and management system, as well as set up a new-energy vehicle operation management informatization platform. At the same time, it will take on a marketing operation model to vigorously promote the construction of a pure electric vehicle power station, charging column and maintenance service outlets. It will also develop five bus power stations and 13 passenger car power stations in 2015.

The government said that it will subsidize electric vehicle purchases on top of national and provincial subsidies. It will give out 20,000 yuan ($3,273) for each pure electricity vehicle purchase and an extra 3,000 yuan for those who trade their fuel cars in for pure electricity vehicles. The government will give 10 percent of investment on power station construction back to investors and offer preferential policies on power and parking costs for electric vehicle owners.
