The Shanxi government has decided to build railway transportation equipment manufacturing facilities in Taiyuan, Datong and Yuncheng cities, according to the provincial development and reform committee. A construction plan for 2014-2020 in the three cities has received government approval.
According to the plan, Taiyuan will become an internationally competitive rail transportation equipment manufacturing base by the end of 2020, with 50 billion yuan in annual sales revenue. Domestic production of key equipment parts will increase, and the auxiliary system, industrial R&D, manufacturing and maintenance abilities will be strengthened significantly. Taiyuan will make use of the existing industrial foundation and technological equipment resources to develop large-scale axle-load trucks and advanced new high-speed trucks.
Datong will evolve into an important urban railway transportation equipment and parts manufacturing facility in Central and West China. CNR Datong Electric Locomotive Co will play a major role in developing high-power AC electric locomotives and building a national locomotive manufacturing and export base. By 2020, business income from the railway transportation equipment and supporting industry in Datong is expected to break 30 billion yuan, creating a new pillar industry in the city.
Yuncheng plans to build itself into a rail transit city nationwide and achieve a total output value of 18 billion yuan. It will give full play to CNR Yongji Xinshisu Electric Equipment Co and actively introduce and cultivate related business to develop an industrial cluster. The city will focus on the development of a high-power motor for electric locomotives, an electric drive system and new materials. It will also focus on an industrial chain for whole-series motors and electric drive products.
