The coke exported from Shanxi province saw an increase of 81.3 percent compared to the same period last year, amounting to 989,000 tons in total, according to statistics from Taiyuan customs. However, the average price of exports was 1,294.20 yuan ($206.94) per ton, a drop of 18.8 percent year-on-year.

Taiyuan customs’ statistics showed that Shanxi’s exported coke came in third in the country in terms of amount. India, Japan and Mexico were the main export destinations, accounting for 84 percent of total exports.

Among the 31 coke exporting enterprises in Shanxi, 12 of them were State-owned enterprises. On the other hand, the coke export capacity of foreign invested enterprises increased evidently, 7.5 times more than last year.

The increased amount and stable price in the coke export industry were contributed by two major factors, the policy and international economic environment, according to analysis from Taiyuan customs. The export tax and quota system in coke exports were officially canceled in 2013 and replaced by coke export licenses. Thanks to the new policy, more and more coke enterprises started exporting coke. At the same time, since last year, the international market’s demand for coke has continued to grow stably, which has been favorable for Shanxi’s coke exports.
