The Ode to Yao, an historical music and dance drama about Emperor Yao was staged on April 2, during the first Emperor Yao Culture Tourism Festival in Linfen, Shanxi province.

Emperor Yao is one of the three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, an exemplary sage who possessed great moral character. About 4,500 years ago, Yao set his capital in Pingyang, today's Linfen.

The Ode to Yao is in the form of puju opera. Puju or puzhou bangzi opera is an ancient variety of Chinese opera from Shanxi. Through colorful art forms such as symphony, dance and recitation, this historical music drama has depicted Yao's benevolence and tremendous achievements.

The drama was staged thanks to the cooperation from Linfen Puju theatre and the dance troupe of Shanxi Normal University.
