A delegation of 18 representatives of Hong Kong media sources, including Ta Kung Pao and Ming Pao newspapers, Phoenix Satellite TV and Hong Kong Satellite TV, paid a culture visit to Shanxi province, July 7 – 11 to get a closer look at its historical culture, especially in the cities of Taiyuan, Linfen and Yuncheng.
The trip, including stops at Jici Temple, Yongle Palace and the Shanxi Museum, was not just to learn more about Shanxi but to give people overseas a better understanding of it. After all, Jiang Zaizhong, head of the delegation explained that Shanxi is the embodiment of Chinese civilization and cultural understanding and the Hong Kong media should open a window on the mainland’s history and culture to make it better known overseas.
This was, however, not the first time for Hong Kong media to visit Shanxi, with earlier delegations having come in 2011, 2013 and earlier in 2015. This time they have plans for a report with a provincial culture theme.
