Shanxi delivered 100 million parcels in 2015, double the expected number.

The province set a goal of sending 50 million parcels in 2015 with annual revenue of one billion yuan, according to the 12th five-year-plan of Shanxi province's postal development strategy.

Revenue from the business in fact reached 1.5 billion yuan, 0.5 billion yuan higher than anticipated.

The express delivery business has seen phenomenal growth in Shanxi since 2013.

There were 47 express delivery companies there by the end of last year, providing 20,000 jobs. In the first half of this year, more than 76 million parcels were delivered. Over 12 million were sent in June alone, which was higher than the total annual number of parcels delivered ten years ago.

The service distance covered by deliverymen was 506,000 kilometers, which is equivalent to running around the equator 13 times.

The fast development of the delivery business also pushed forward e-commerce in Shanxi. Fresh local agricultural products appeared quickly on dinner tables across the country.

The delivery network is expected to reach 85 percent of the rural areas and townships of Shanxi which will foster faster development of agricultural e-commerce.
