Datong has been ready for the Shanxi Tourism Development Conference on Aug 31, after standing out among 11 cities which bid for the right to host the event.
The city has taken steps to improve its transportation, safety, accommodation and volunteer sector ahead of the conference.
A night shuttle bus to Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi province, has been put into action, as well as more trains along the Beijing-Datong Railway to cope with the coming travel peak. In the densely populated area, such as shopping plazas and bus stations, some 3,500 public bicycles have been made available.
The local police have strengthened their patrol of the city in order to ensure public safety.
Shanxi Tourism Development Conference is aimed at improving tourism services and the travel experiences of visitors to the province. In Datong, at the Yungang Grottoes, a Buddhism tourist attraction, 60 volunteer guides have been recruited this year.
