Selling more than 300 bowls a day, Shanxi knife-sliced noodles proved popular with visitors to the Chinese Top Ten Noodles Tournament held in Xianyang, Shaanxi province from Sept 4 to 6.
Shanxi knife-sliced noodles (dao xiao mian) are cut in the shape of willow leaves, and have a soft and chewy texture.
"After rambling around the exhibition hall three times, my wife and I finally chose Shanxi knife-sliced noodles, and we didn't regret our choice," said Li Li, a 72-year-old Xianyang resident.
As a symbol of local wheat food, Shanxi knife-sliced noodles were put forward to take part in the tournament, which is held to publicize the wheat food culture of Shanxi province and boost the local wheat food industry.
More people got to learn about and taste sliced noodles and other Shanxi wheat products through the competition, according to the director of Shanxi department of commerce.
Apart from sliced noodles, there were nine other nationally famous noodles at the event, including Lanzhou beef noodles and Beijing noodles with soybean paste. The three-day event provides a platform for regions to share and show their wheat food culture.
