The opening ceremony of this year's Pingyao International Photography Festival (PIP) was itself fertile ground for budding photographers on Sept 19 as attendees were treated to a colorful show combining modern and traditional Chinese culture.
The medley of drama, singing and dance performances were designed to introduce the vibrant and rich culture of Pingyao county, Shanxi province, and to tie into the theme of this year's event, "global mindset, love for the homeland", which aims to promote cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world.
During the PIP, photographers from 33 countries and regions will express their view of the multicultural world through some 15,000 pictures during the festival, which will also provide a platform for artists to exchange ideas and photography techniques.
