Stage director Wang Chaoge was named an honorary citizen of Pingyao county, Shanxi province, at a symposium on Oct 14 in recognition of her contribution to local tourism and culture.
Wang was awarded the title after her work Another Glance at Pingyao, a mixture of performance art and theater immersing audiences in scenes from Pingyao's history, was made into an official art program by the county government to promote the region's unique history and culture.

The show has been staged more than 2,600 times and been seen by 1.6 million people since its debut in 2013, providing a huge boost to Pingyao's local tourism and culture.
At the meeting, Wang offered several suggestions on how Pingyao can introduce new cultural projects and develop tourism. In her view, the county should produce projects based on its own distinctive culture and make the cultural sector a vital driver of the local economy.

"It is an honor to receive this recognition of the hard work done by our group and myself," Wang told her audience at the symposium. "I will continue to improve the quality of Another Glance at Pingyao in order to let more people know about Pingyao."
Pingyao aims to commend all people that work for the promotion of culture and tourism in the county, and we invite the public to join in the cause, said Wu Xiaohua, a senior official in the Pingyao government.
