Harvard Medical School (HMS) will cooperate with Shanxi province on training medical specialists, according to a meeting held on Oct 21.

The two sides achieved agreement on two projects. One project will focus on training managers in the medical field, and the other will focus specifically on training clinicians and scientific research at HMS.

The HMS delegation led by Robin J. Wheatley chose 10 candidates out of 18 clinical researchers selected by Shanxi Health and Family Planning Commission following interviews. The candidates will undergo clinician training in November.

The partnership between HMS and Shanxi will greatly improve the skills of local clinicians and medical management, marking new heights in Shanxi's cooperation with foreign medical institutes.

In 2015, Shanxi set a target to train 10,000 medical professionals, especially doctors, over a three to five year period. Also, the government is giving much more support to training professionals in pediatrics, obstetrics, first aid, rehabilitation and nursing.
