A group of Shanxi provincial leaders inspected Pingyao and met with local officials over Nov 9 and 10 to inspect the tourism development and conservation of cultural heritage of the county.
The delegation visited local tourist attractions, such as Rishengchang Exchange Shop, China's first draft bank founded during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It once controlled almost half of the Chinese economy, with branches widespread across big cities and the capital of China in the 19th century. It is now a piaohao (bank in ancient times) museum for tourists to learn about the history of banks in China.

Pingyao Eco-Tourism and Culture Industrial Park and Shuanglin Temple were also visited by the group where they investigated the renovation of the historical relics and tourist services there.
Zhang Fuming, vice governor of Shanxi province, put forward his advice on developing tourism in Pingyao. In his opinion, the county should advance local sightseeing based on the protection of its cultural heritage. As one of few well preserved ancient towns, it needs to explore more cultural elements capable of boosting tourism centered on its unique culture and history.
