A railway line from Yuncheng, Shanxi province to Sanmenxia, Henan province will begin construction in 2017, to facilitate traffic and communication in the Yellow River golden triangle region and become a transportation hub for the area.
The railway, costing 7.6 billion yuan ($1.05 billion), will extend for 56.8 kilometers, allowing passengers to travel more conveniently across Shanxi and the surrounding provinces. Also, the rail connections between Yuncheng and the cities of East China, such as Nanjing and Shanghai, will be strengthened as the rail network expands.
The rail program is one of 10 major transport projects to be established in the Yellow River golden triangle region designed to boost regional cooperation and development. The region, covering an area of 57,800 kilometers, consists of the adjacent city of Shanxi, as well as Henan and Shaanxi provinces on both sides of the Yellow River, namely Yuncheng, Linfen, Sanmenxia and Weinan.
At the end of 2016, the Yuncheng government approved the plan to build the Yuncheng-Sanmenxia railway. The schedule for the preparation and construction work was further discussed during the seventh session of the 12th Shanxi Provincial People’s Congress, held from Jan 14 to 18.
