A demonstration area for economic transformation and reform has been approved for construction in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province.
The area stretches over 60,000 hectares from Taiyuan to its neighboring city Jinzhong, and includes eight industrial parks, high-tech parks and university clusters.
Lou Yangsheng, governor of Shanxi province, expressed his best wishes at the opening ceremony on behalf of the local Party working committee and administration on Feb 25.
"The departments both in Taiyuan and Jinzhong must take their responsibilities seriously, conduct economic reforms and dedicate themselves to the construction of the area. The governments of Taiyuan and Jinzhong, and relevant departments in the province must make joint efforts to support this project," he said.
The area is a pilot project for the implementation of new economic systems and policies. It will stick to the requirements for achieving innovative, intelligent and low-carbon development, and help emerging industries like biomedicine, electronic information and equipment production to become pillar industries during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).
