A comic series themed on Mount Wutai, a Buddhist site in Xinzhou, Shanxi province, has recently been released to showcase the magnificent scenery of the mountain and promote local tourism and culture.
The series covers the natural landscape and temples, biographies, myths and folklore of Mount Wutai. It's the first national series depicting Mount Wutai and telling related stories through comic books.
The pictures and captions give a vivid description of local scenery and Buddhist structures, enticing readers with the history and Buddhism development of the mountain.

Top domestic artists and Buddhist scholars, such as Li Ming and Shi Miaojiang, were recruited to work on the comic books.
Following the series themed around Mount Wutai, Xinzhou will next publish a comic book series focusing on the tourist attractions of the city, including Yanmenguan scenic area and Luya Mountain, to further show its culture and attract more visitors, according to Wang Yan, editor-in-chief of the editorial group for the comic book series.
Mount Wutai, one of four sacred Buddhist mountains in China, is home to many monasteries and temples, including Shuxiang Temple and Bishan Temple. It was included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.
