The Dragon Boat Festival is one of China's biggest traditional festivals, and this year Shanxi province has taken advantage of the holiday period to promote its tourist attractions.
During this year's festival, Shanxi province received 12.53 million tourists from home and abroad, 26.07 percent higher than the same period last year, with total tourism revenues hitting 5.78 billion yuan ($840 million) –– 26.47 percent higher than last year.
The Dragon Boat Festival vacation is a peak travel period following the May Day holiday.
This year, Shanxi has been promoting its traditional culture to attract tourists, with a variety of themed activities staged in the province. Shanxi managed to attract a large number of tourists by staging a diverse range of events, bringing in significant revenues to the province.
The safety of tourists was made a priority during the holiday period and there were no recorded incidents.
Local tourism authorities handled 67 inquiries during the festival and dealt with two complaints –– the same number as last year.
