Shanxi officials met with a delegation from Canelones of Uruguay on June 2, signing a memorandum for furthering the two sides' friendship.
Canelones department (province) has been increasing its links with Shanxi in fields such as trade and agriculture since it established a relationship with Shanxi in 1992. There is a solid foundation and positive outlook for collaboration between the two regions, according to Lou Yangsheng, governor of Shanxi.
He expressed his hopes that partnerships in foreign trade in areas such as farm produce, education, sports, infrastructure, environmental protection and tourism will be furthered between the two sides.
"Canelones will seek more opportunities and explore more areas for cooperation," said Yamandú Orsi, governor of Canelones, who will tour different areas across the province during his visit.
