Artworks of fine art graduates are being showcased to the public from Sept 6 to 25, following the art exhibition of selected works of college graduates held this June.

Graduates majoring in fine arts from 35 colleges and universities in Shanxi province showcase their 600 creations at Taiyuan Art Museum.

The various exhibits, including traditional Chinese paintings, block prints, sculptures and folk crafts, are selected from 1,000 collected works of graduates from several art majors such as folk craft arts and graphic design.

The exhibition shows strong regional characteristics of Shanxi culture, according to Lin Lecheng, a professor at the Academy of Arts & Design in Tsinghua University.

"The amazing piece of work which received first prize combines traditional dough modeling in Shanxi with modern art," said Lin when he viewed the dough-made figurine named The Life of a Peking Opera Artist, which reproduces scenes from both on and off the stage of a dance drama through hundreds of vivid handmade dough figurines.

"Many colleges in China don’t offer a major in folk arts while colleges in Shanxi still offer them. Folk arts are an integral part of regional culture and more artwork on behalf of regional culture should be displayed to the public," he added.
