Shanxi-born Li Zheng, along with his partner Wang Han, won the mixed 3m springboard diving at the 17th FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary on July 22, giving Shanxi its first diving world champion.
Before the world championships, Li had previously won four championships in domestic legs of the FINA Diving World Series in partnership with Wang Han. The two finished first in the mixed 3m springboard diving with 323.70 points through five rounds against rivals from 14 different countries in the world championships.
Li was born in 2000 and started professional swimming in Yuncheng, Shanxi in 2008, and was recruited to the national athletics team in 2013. He is good at both springboard and platform diving.
With advantages in age, strength and diving techniques, Li can continue to develop his diving skills, according to Ren Fengming, director of Shanxi Swimming Management Center.
