The legend of an ancient heroine Hua Mulan was staged in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi province, on Aug 21.
The play, produced by a Jin Opera (a kind of opera originating from Shanxi province and popular in North China) troupe in Yuxian county, Yangquan city, tells the stories Hua Mulan, a warrior who disguised herself as a man to replace her father in military service during the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-581).
The opera was one of 55 dramas staged during the first Shanxi Art Festival which takes place between Aug 18 and Sept 26.
