A national arts and crafts summit, one of three major forums during the first Shanxi Art Festival, was held at Shanxi Arts And Crafts Museum in Taiyuan on Aug 23.
Focusing on promoting craftsmanship as well as excellence and innovation, the summit invited dozens of art curators and museum representatives from across China, editors in chief of arts and crafts periodicals, and directors of arts and crafts associations to communicate and cooperate on protecting traditional culture and art.
"We hope that attendees will reach a consensus on collaboration through the summit and that they will provide business matchmaking services and help for organizations, companies and individuals engaged in arts and crafts to share resources, and protect and promote traditional arts and crafts," said Zheng Zhongxia, vice-director of Shanxi Provincial Department of Culture.
The attendees also viewed exhibits, including lacquers, sculptures and glassware at the Shanxi Arts And Crafts Museum, and an exhibition of Shanxi intangible cultural heritage during the first Shanxi Art Festival. The event helped further understanding about Shanxi’s arts and crafts industry and its achievements in protection of its intangible cultural heritage.
