Shanxi province put its first prefabrication construction industrial base into operation in local Yangqu county, Taiyuan, on Sept 27.
Prefabrication is the practice of assembling components of a structure in a factory or other manufacturing sites, and transporting complete assemblies or sub-assemblies to the construction site where the structure is to be located.
Introducing the technical system and precast concrete (PC) production technologies from Broad Homes Industrial International Co (Broad), the base is expected to produce 120-150 hectares of prefabricated PC components, saving water, energy, time, construction materials and protecting the environment.
The base is now operated by Shanxi Jiantou Broad Construction Industry Co, a joint venture between Shanxi Economic Construction Investment Group (Shanxi ECI) and Shanxi Construction Engineering Group and Broad, with Shanxi ECI, a subsidiary of Shanxi Energy and Traffic Investment Co, being the controlling shareholder.
Taking the base in Taiyuan as a demonstration site, six other prefabrication construction industrial parks have been built in cities such as Jinzhong, Linfen, Jincheng, and Datong, aiming to produce a capacity of 1,000 hectares by 2020, according to Wu Qiang, chairman of Shanxi Energy and Traffic Investment Co.
In June 2017, Shanxi provincial government set a goal that the floorage of prefabricated buildings should account for 30 percent of that of newly built building by the end of 2025.
