Shanxi province intends to recruit medical experts and professionals from the United States through program-matching activities, according to the fifth Taiyuan Global Health Conference which commenced on Nov 1.
In 2016, Shanxi organized a delegation of individuals representing medical institutions to visit Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to attract more local professionals to Shanxi.
Shanxi province has introduced 64 academics, overseas experts and domestic top medical specialists, and signed 151 partnership agreements with famous medical institutions and experts from outside Shanxi.
A total of 186 graduates from top Chinese universities, such as Peking University and Fudan University, have been employed, said Wei Xiaochun, director of Shanxi Health and Family Planning Commission.
However, Shanxi still lacks the ability to train high-level medical professionals and develop new technologies due to its inland location, though the province has been reforming the local medical service system.
The plan to seek medical professionals and expertise in the US is thus designed as a move to promote training and technological innovation.
Also, Shanxi has launched a project which aims to cultivate 10,000 medical professionals, with over 8,200 people having already been trained.
