Pingyao Chinese New Year, a cultural event in Pingyao county which celebrates the traditional Spring Festival, will be held from Feb 8 to March 3 –– the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month to the 16th day of the first lunar month –– according to a press conference held in Taiyuan on Jan 19.
This year's event, with a theme of "world famous Pingyao – my home", will offer seven themed activities including lantern shows, opera performances, calligraphy demonstrations and an online gala for locals and visitors to Pingyao.
Pingyao Chinese New Year highlights local Pingyao characteristics, folk customs of Shanxi merchants and the culture of a traditional Spring Festival among the Han ethnic group in North China –– boosting local tourism and economic development, said Zhou Feng, deputy director of the Shanxi Office of Guidance Committee for Spiritual Civilization Construction, at the press conference.
