Pingyao Festival Palace, where the first Pingyao International Film Festival was held, will open to the public from Feb 10.
Aiming to become a vital base for road shows and premieres in North China, Pingyao Festival Palace will develop a cultural and arts communication platform with film screenings as the core.
Apart from showing films, it intends to develop three branded events, namely a monthly academic series (lectures, forums, master classes and readers' meetings) called "Voice of Pingyao", a collection of films called "Pingyao Special" and a regular arts exhibition.
The three branded events will be unveiled during Feb 10 and 11.
Jia Zhangke, the initiator of Pingyao International Film Festival, will hold a book release meeting at Pingyao Festival Palace. Qiao Xiaoguang, a professional in intangible cultural heritage and fine arts, will share his experience and opinions about modern paper cutting.
The first session of the "Pingyao Special" collection will focus on the theme of "homeland and true self", and show five themed films over Feb 10 and 11.
The first arts exhibition will highlight Chinese New Year paintings. It will cooperate with domestic clothing brand EXCEPTION de MIXMIND and ECHO of Things Chinese, a magazine published in Taiwan that researches traditional Chinese folk culture, and highlight the folk customs of Spring Festival which combine with modern aesthetics over the next two months.
The major venue for the first Pingyao International Film Festival in October 2017, Pingyao Festival Palace in the northwest corner of the Ancient City of Pingyao has been well-received by film fans and filmmakers for its software and software facilities.
The building, with floorage of 1.1 hectares has six auditoriums with 2,300 seats and projection equipment allowing 3D and 4D screenings. Among the six auditoriums, an open-air theater has the largest open-air screen in Asia.
