Experts from Peking University, Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage discussed methods to protect the Great Wall castle groups in Datong city at a tourism-themed meeting in Beijing on Feb 7.
Xinrong district in Datong city, where sections of the Great Wall and ancient castle groups are located, is a vital passageway connecting north Shanxi province and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
The district will explore culture behind the local Great Wall sections and boost Great Wall themed-tourism based on historical relic protection over the next four years. Private capital will also be introduced to develop related tourism projects.
