Shanxi province received 13.65 million tourists from home and abroad during the Spring Festival which ran from Feb 15 to 21, marking an increase of 43.57 percent compared to the same period last year.
Out of that, one-day trip visitors accounted for 9.81 million, a year-on-year increase of 45.47 percent, while overnight visitors accounted for 3.84 million, a year-on-year increase of 38.95 percent.
The total tourism revenue reached 6.3 billion yuan ($996.66 million), representing a year-on-year increase of 31.78 percent, according to the local tourism authority.
More than half of the tourists traveled with families and preferred relaxing and healthy destinations, such as hot springs.
Miaohui, a traditional fair held during the Spring Festival, also entertained many tourists. Folk cultural performances and local foods provided people with a visual, audio and mouthwatering feast.
During the seven-day holiday, local tourism authority tightened controls over local tourist markets to ensure safe and smooth travel experiences.
Officers patrolled the roads and worked in shifts on a hotline to deal with complaints in a timely manner.
According to a senior official at the provincial tourism department, Shanxi will continue to improve the travel service quality and reduce consumer complaints to the minimum level.
