Sitting at the western foot of the Taihang Mountains, Lingtou village in Wuxiang county was once an undeveloped area held back by poor transportation. The annual per capita net income of villagers was only some 3,000 yuan ($453) in 2016.

The turning point came in November 2016 when Wuxiang county was included in the list of national comprehensive demonstration counties for rural e-commerce.

With the county's support in rural e-commerce training and network construction, Lingtou village soon saw the establishment of a rural e-commerce training base and service stations which serve as farm produce agents.

Villagers started to try operating online stores with cellphones, selling their farm produce such as millet, eggs and walnuts through the internet.

The online business was successful, greatly increasing the average incomes of local residents.

Currently, more than 100 villagers are running online stores. In 2017, the annual per capita net income of villagers exceeded 6,500 yuan.
