Students from Ying Wa Primary School in Hong Kong learn to play drums in Xinjiang county, Shanxi province, July 10. It's the second group of Hong Kong students that have traveled to the province to learn Jiangzhou drum music. Xinjiang county, which was known as Jiangzhou in ancient times, has been a famous drumming region since the early Tang Dynasty (618-907). Jiangzhou drum music features various melodies that became popular in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. It’s now listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.
